  • This advice is intended to supplement the lab instruction of the student welder. Advice is available for the student to practice. There's a high demand for welders in the job market at present and with instructors at class capacity it is easy to understand that the student will turn to internet resources to help develop their careers. I will start with some common exercises that will be farmilliar to the student...... so read on and jump in where your at. The Horizontal T-joint.

points to remember:

  • Travel rate (enough to produce a consistant weld)
  • electrode angle (10 degree pull angle and 10 degree pushed angle to finish)
  • welding will be slightly ocillated, this is best explained as a zig-zag or a side-on zees motion from one side of the joint to the other.
  • If your weld has scoured an undercut, your rate of travel is too fast and a moment of hesitation should be considered.
